Why do I feel sad for no reason?

Sadness can creep up on anyone. Whether you have it all together, you’re a complete mess or somewhere in between. Sadness pops up for infinite reasons. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you.

Here are various things to consider with your sadness:

  • If you stay completely still for 10 mins and stay open to what might be the cause of your sadness, what pops into your head? You can write the ideas down or just keep track of them until one potential cause stands out. Then you can either journal more about what stood out to you and/or ask a friend to help you hold space for your sadness.

  • Consider the structure, routine and flow of your weeks and days. What might you add or subtract to create a better balance. Announce that you will make such changes and then check to see how you respond to such an idea. Choose a trusted friend to share your ideas with and see what makes sense.

  • Have you tried asking someone to hold you while you share about your sadness?

  • When was the last time you went to physical space that brings you great pleasure and clarity? If it’s been a long time, go to such a place and just bask in that environment for a long time before you reflect on your sadness.

  • If you can get in touch with your inner child, what would they want and need from you?

  • Reflect on your day to day. What roles do you take on? Is there a role that is missing?

These are only but a small selection of choices you could take to reflect on your sadness and get in touch with it. I’m sure you have many ways that to approach your sadness. I encourage you to go with what works.

Note: None of this may help you at all. Sadness shows up for many reasons. I’m sorry if you’re still confused about your sadness.
